Every kind of screenshot

Drag an area, click a window, or take the whole screen or the window in front. The screen keeps moving while you choose, like the macOS screenshot keys, or you can freeze it so open menus and hover states stay put. A magnifier shows the exact pixels under the pointer, and the selection snaps to edges on the screen unless you hold Control. There's also a 3 or 5 second timer, a shortcut that takes the same area again, and Pin to Screen, which keeps a screenshot above your other windows.

Scrolling screenshots

Mark an area and scroll at your own pace. A live preview shows the long image as it grows. Its bottom is always what's on screen right now, so it never runs past where you stopped, and if you scroll back up a little, the end moves back with you.

Blur suggestions

When you open a screenshot, VeilShot reads the text in it and points out what looks private: email addresses, phone numbers, IBANs, card numbers, keys and tokens, IP addresses, street addresses, links and faces. Click one to blur it, or blur them all. You can also have it blur them on every capture. They're suggestions, so look the image over before you send it.

Editing

Crop from any edge, one pixel at a time with the arrow keys. Add curved arrows, lines, rectangles, ellipses, text in any font, numbered steps and a highlighter. There's an eraser, a colour picker that copies HEX, RGB, HSL, SwiftUI or NSColor, a ruler that shows the distance between edges as you move the pointer, and text you can select and copy straight from the image. The Background tool puts a screenshot on a padded background with a shadow. Blur covers text a word at a time, as Pixelate, Blur or a solid Redact box. Press Esc and the edited image is on the clipboard.

Record steps

Pick a window, an area or the whole screen, then work as usual. Each click inside it becomes a screenshot with a numbered ring where you clicked and a caption such as Click “Save”, read from the screen. Edit, reorder or delete the steps, then copy the guide into a document or export it as a PDF or a Markdown folder.

Copy text from the screen

Capture Text turns an area of the screen into plain text on the clipboard. It reads QR codes and barcodes too. It uses the text recognition built into macOS, on your Mac. It's good, but tiny or heavily styled text can come out wrong.

Nothing leaves your Mac

There's no account, and nothing is uploaded or tracked. VeilShot has no network access at all. Screenshots go to the clipboard, or to a folder when you save them, and nowhere else. The privacy policy has the details.

What it needs

macOS 15 Sequoia or later, and the Screen Recording permission, which VeilShot asks for when you first open it.
