VeilShot doesn't collect any data. Your screenshots stay on your Mac.

What it can see

VeilShot needs the Screen Recording permission, because that's how macOS lets an app see the screen. It only looks when you start a capture: to show the magnifier while you pick an area, to find the window under the pointer, to freeze the screen if you've turned that on, or to follow a scrolling capture. It doesn't watch the screen in the background.

During Record Steps, VeilShot also notices your mouse clicks inside the window or area you chose, and takes a screenshot of each one, until you stop the recording. It knows where you clicked. It never sees your keystrokes.

What it does with a screenshot

To suggest what to blur, to copy text and to write the captions in a step guide, VeilShot reads the text in a screenshot and looks for faces, using the text and face recognition built into macOS. That happens on your Mac, in memory. The results are only used to show the suggestions and to fill the clipboard. They aren't stored or sent anywhere.

What it stores

  • Your settings, such as your shortcuts and which blur suggestions are on, in the app's own preferences on your Mac.
  • Screenshots you save, in the folder you choose. That's Pictures/Screenshots unless you pick another one.
  • Short-lived copies of screenshots you drag or share into other apps, in the app's private temporary folder. They're deleted after 15 minutes, and whenever VeilShot starts.
  • Your last screenshot, in memory, so Open Last Screenshot works. It's gone when you quit.
  • A step guide's screenshots, in the app's private folder while you record, so a crash doesn't lose them. They're deleted when you close the guide or quit, and anything left after a crash is deleted after 7 days.

What it sends

Nothing. VeilShot has no server, no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads and no tracking. It doesn't have network access, so macOS wouldn't let it connect to the internet even if it tried. Screenshots leave your Mac only when you paste, drag, share or save them somewhere yourself. The privacy policy and support links in the app open in your browser.

If you email

If you write to the support address, your email address and your message are used only to reply to you. They aren't shared with anyone, and you can ask for them to be deleted. The same goes for any screenshot you attach.

Buying it

You buy VeilShot through the Mac App Store, and Apple handles the payment. pureidle Labs doesn't receive your payment details.

Changes

If any of this changes, this page changes first, before the app does.
