ScrollUtils
Turning it on, and what to check when something doesn't work.
Turning it on
- Open the ScrollUtils app and click Open Safari Extension Settings, or go to Safari, Settings, Extensions.
- Tick ScrollUtils.
- Allow it on the websites where you want to use it. Safari asks the first time.
In a Private Browsing window, Safari only runs extensions you allow there: tick Allow in Private Browsing in the same settings. If you use Safari profiles, turn ScrollUtils on in each one.
If scrolling doesn't start
- Check the pointer isn't on a link. A middle-click on a link opens it, as it always has.
- Check the page can scroll at all. On a page that fits the window there is nothing to move.
- Some sites use the middle button themselves, such as maps that pan with it. There the site's own behaviour wins.
- Inside an embedded frame, only that frame scrolls. A cookie banner in its own frame has nothing to scroll.
- Safari doesn't run extensions on its own pages, such as the start page and Settings.
- After updating ScrollUtils, reload any tabs that were already open.
If zoom doesn't work
Check that zoom is on in the ScrollUtils toolbar button and which key it uses, ⌘ or ⌥. One click of the wheel zooms one step. If your mouse zooms several steps at a time, move Zoom speed towards Slow. The key and a middle-click reset the page to actual size.
